A unique southwest Florida Setting
Historic Spanish Point in Osprey, just south of Sarasota, is a unique south Florida setting where lush natural beauty coincides with a rich and romantic history. Today, Historic Spanish Point is a 30-acre site dedicated to historic, environmental, and archeological education and preservation. The onsite historical museum features an ancient native shell mound or "midden," an early settler home, and other remarkable exhibits. Dozens of volunteers help a small staff operate and maintain the museum and the adjacent grounds.
Nationally Registered as a Historic Place
In 1976, Historic Spanish Point became the first site in Sarasota County to receive a listing in the National Register of Historic Places, and in 1980, the owners donated the Historic Spanish Point property to the Gulf Coast Heritage Association. Buildings and natural features were upgraded or restored, and today thousands enjoy Historic Spanish Point every month. Nature trails and boardwalks criss-cross all 30 beautiful acres through pines, oaks, and dense mangroves along the shore of Little Sarasota Bay. You'll find a chapel, a small cemetery, a water garden, a butterfly garden, and a tranquil jungle walk.
Historic Spanish Point is located at 337 North Tamiami Trail in Osprey. Hours are Monday through Saturday, 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. and Sundays, noon to 5:00 p.m. General admission price is $10.00 for adults, $5 for children ages 5 to 12, and a $1.00-off senior discount. Memberships and other discounts are available. Historic Spanish Point is completely family-friendly and entirely handicapped-accessible, but pets are not allowed except for service companion animals.
