It’s just south of Osprey on the east side of the Tamiami Trail. Oscar Scherer State Park is family-friendly, pet-friendly, and handicapped-accessible. Admission is $5.00 per vehicle (limit 8 people) or $4.00 per single occupant vehicle, and $2.00 for pedestrians and bicyclists. For those not camping overnight, hours are 8:00 a.m. to sunset daily.

Florida's Best Park

Oscar Scherer State Park is Florida's best, 1,400 acres of towering pines with a blackwater stream and two large lakes. Everything you'll want is available: canoeing, birding, bicycling, hiking, kayaking, snorkeling, a complete picnic facility, a complete fishing dock, restrooms and hot showers, 15 miles of foot trails, overlooks, boardwalks, and much, much more. On any given day you're likely to encounter foxes, tortoises, rabbits, bobcats, and otters. Mangroves, blueberries, and persimmons flourish throughout the park. Largemouth bass fishing is hugely popular at the 3-acre Lake Osprey. Oscar Scherer State Park opened in 1956 and now hosts more than 130,000 visitors a year.
